two 1950s reclining lounge chairs
arne vodder
for france & daverkosen

beech, teak and turquoise fabric

W 72cm, D 78cm, H 78cm

A pair of original "F&D 161" 1950s lounge chairs by Arne Vodder for France and Daverkosen. In a stylish combination of beech, teak and turquoise fabric, this early set displays Vodder's emerging mastery of furniture design.

The the sculpted arms, aero-dynamic form and clean lines are signature Vodder features that would recur in his later designs.

Restored to pristine condition, with newly covered, sprung cushions and repolished frames, these chairs are both stylish and extremely comfortable. The reclining mechanisms are in perfect working order, both chairs structurally without defects. There is minor surface wear to one arm, which does not detract.

These chairs can be adjusted for laid back relaxation or a more upright, formal position.

This design is illustrated on page 14 of the original France & Daverkosen catalogue, a copy of which has been provided by the Danish Design Museum.
